On the first day of class I distributed a handout with a list of possible resources to add to our Resource Pool. Please reply to this post with your thoughts and suggestions.
I will make the purchases shortly after February 5th in order to have them before too long so that we can make good use of them. Make sure to reply prior to that!
Finally, what do you think about donating the Resource Pool to the Campus Y Social Justice library once the semester is over? Do you have any other ideas on what we could do with it once the semester is over?

Hey y'all, here are my thoughts:
Of the books listed below, the top three books I would love to read are 3 Cups of Tea (which I have heard great things about), Plan B 3.0 (I have read part of this, and I think it would be a really interesting book to discuss in class because it is very in your face and offers a lot of controversial solutions that are fun to debate), and Banker to the Poor (just since Yunus is coming to campus...).
I have also seen Invisible Children and Born into Brothels, both of them are awesome and pretty inspiring.
And yeah, I would definitely be in favor of donating them to the Campus Y library afterwards, that is a great idea!
As far as books go, honestly I would be happy to read and discuss any of them, but here are my top few:
Three Cups of Tea
Banker to the Poor
Out of Poverty
As far as movies go, I have seen Invisible Children and seen some of Live8. I would like to see Born into Brothels. FYI: I have access to Blood Diamond if we wanted to watch that we wouldn't have to use our funds to purchase it.
Definitely donate all the resources, love the idea!
While I agree that all of these books sound fascinating and would greatly contribute to our class discussions, the three I would most like to read are 3 Cups of Tea (I have owned this book for awhile but haven't had a chance to read it), Out of Poverty, and Banker to the Poor. I think these would be most complementary to the books we are already planning to read in class.
As far as movies, I have heard so much about Blood Diamond and would enjoy seeing it (especially since Jenny already has it). I have seen Invisible Children, but I haven't seen any of the others and would honestly be curious to see any of them.
And I agree that donating the resources sounds great!
My top choices for books would be:
1. Banker to the Poor
2. The Mystery of Capital
3. Plan B
4. Development as Freedom
My top choices for movies:
1. Invisible Children
2. Small Fortunes: Microcredit
3. Life and Debt
Everything sounds good though. Donating everything sounds like an awesome idea.
Hello everyone,
I stumbled upon this exceptional experiment called "Creative Capitalism" that may be an excellent acquisition to our pool. It is inspired by the speech delivered at the World Economic Forum by Bill Gates. In it he said that the world's problems are too big for government or philanthropy to take on, they need the free market, capitalist system.
This inspired a lot of comments, and Michael Kinsley moderated a conversation between economists and awesome people like Warren Buffet.
Anyway, they made it into a publi website and it is now a published book. I say we get it!

Hey guys,
I know of someone that has a copy of Small Fortunes that we could borrow if we want to see any of it in class. This documentary, To Our Credit: Bootstrap Banking in America, sounds really cool though :)
ahhh I mean hey everyone**
